In partnership with Twin Fin Waikiki and Beach Candy, the world’s premier surf school Jamie O’Brien Surf Experience is launching a new brand – Jamie O’Brien School of Surf Waikiki, a new surf school concept dedicated to providing premium surfing experiences in the birthplace of the sport. While Jamie O’Brien School of Surf offers experiences for surfers of all skill levels, we specialize in introducing beginners and first-time surfers to the sport through personalized instruction on premium equipment. Guests can expect top-quality experiences in a private and/or public setting complete with professional media packages and signature merchandise on offer in a completely redesigned retail space in Twin Fin Waikiki fronting Kalakaua Ave.
Your Easy Start to Surfing
- Meet on the sand in front of The Twin Fin — your instructor greets you and gets you suited up.
- Start with a dry-land demo and warm-up on the beach so you know exactly what to do before you hit the water.
- Grab your board, walk a few steps to the shoreline, and paddle out to catch your first wave in Waikīkī’s friendly break.
- Your coach stays with you in the water until you’re standing and riding confidently.

- Ohana (Private Group) Surf Lesson – $149/person Our most popular experience features just your group of friends and/or family with your own private, dedicated instructor! This surf lesson is best for couples, families, and small groups looking to enjoy the ocean together in a private, safe environment. 4:1 guest/instructor ratio. Catch your first waves and create lifelong memories with your loved ones.
- Group Surf Lesson – $119/person This surf lesson is for those who don’t mind sharing their waves and psych with a group of new friends in our daily public group surf lesson. Guests from all walks of life are invited to try their hand at the sport of kings with like-minded individuals from all walks of life. Guests must be 12 years of age or older to join a group surf lesson for safety purposes. To ensure quality instruction, we have a 4:1 guest/instructor ratio.
- Private Surf Lesson – $209/person A private surf lesson is the best way for guests to maximize their wave count and progress their surfing ability quickly through personalized guidance and coaching. This premium experience ensures 100% tailored instruction and coaching from your personal surf instructor, guaranteeing the best surfing experience possible. 1:1 guest/instructor ratio.
- Kids Surf Lesson – $219/person The best way to introduce your keiki (children) to the sport of surfing! Introduce your kids to surfing in a fun, safe, and beautiful environment. Surfing is a great way to keep your kids active and outdoors. Available for keiki age 10 and under, our specifically trained surf instructors provide a one-and-a-half hour, one-on-one introduction to surfing, giving your child their perfect first waves in a safe and fun environment.
Who is Jamie O’Brien?
Jamie O’Brien is a professional surfer from Hawaii’s North Shore, known for his fearless approach to surfing. He started surfing at the age of four and has been surfing ever since. Jamie has won numerous surfing competitions and is widely regarded as one of the best surfers in the world.
Jamie’s passion for surfing is contagious, and he loves nothing more than sharing his knowledge and experience with others. That’s why he created Jamie O’Brien School of Surf, to give people from all over the world the chance to live the dream and surf in Hawaii.

Our instructors are carefully selected local surfers trained under Jamie O’Brien’s exacting standards. You’ll be using soft-top beginner-friendly boards, and we maintain a safety-first approach so you can relax and enjoy the ride.
Does Jamie teach the lessons, or do you work with other instructors?
While Jamie isn’t available to reserve a lesson with, he makes regular appearances both in the shop and in the water surprising guests and sharing their experiences with them. We employ a select group of top-notch LOCAL surf instructors handpicked by Jamie for their ocean knowledge and surfing prowess and trained to his exacting standards.
